Oceanic Hair & Beauty (South Side) Reviews

  • Average cut and blow dry - not really a good offer. (Rating 2.8/5)
I arrived at Oceanic at 4.35 for my appointment at 4.45. I was acknowledged pretty quick and was offered a drink which I refused kindly and was asked to wait. Although my appointment was at 4.45 I think they were short staffed as I was seen to at 5pm..ish and got out at 6pm, an hour and 15 minutes later for a cut and blow dry. I was also told that because of the length of my hair (below my shoulders) I would have to pay an extra £10 even though i had already paid £20 for the promotional offer through the 5pm website. If I knew it would be £30 I would have went elsewhere as when I looked at the pricelist and asked a friend who also goes to this hairdressers they charge this much all the time so I didnt get any offer at all so they pretend they are giving an offer to get customers to come to the salon as it was EMPTY. Woman cutting my hair was lovely and did a decent job. She put in alot of effort to make me happy with the outcome which was decent as she had many years of experience and she was lovely to chat to. Overall an okay experience due to the hairdresser being so professional.

  • Never again! (Rating 1.8/5)
Disappointment with this experience started before I even got to it. Had a phone call from the salon 2 days prior to my appointment saying the time I requested on 5pm was not available (I booked this appointment 5 days before the call). Was told the salon did not offer online booking, my requested time was not available and could I go in slightly later than requested. Was fine with that. However I did get to the salon before my original requested time and, low and behold, I was greeted and seated straight away! Salon looked very clinical from the outside with the door and windows having a frosting over them. Inside was very white, again very clinical looking and feeling. Not sure if it had been a dental clinic or such previously and owners didn't change the look but not extremely welcoming for a hair & beauty salon. Had booked in for a full head highlights, cut and blow dry, came out looking like I've only had a cut and blow dry! Stylist did not introduce herself, told me my hair was actually 'far too damaged with excess colour' and my hair 'probably wouldn't take to highlights'. Tried to explain that I had had my hair highlighted for many years previously without issues and had only gone back to as close to my natural colour 6 months ago and hadn't been for any for or cut/colour since then as was growing my hair. All fell on deaf ears BUT she did highlight my hair (with an already pre-prepped bowl of bleaching agent) & left the formula to work it's magic. As expected my hair did come up well. However, as she said she had to add a toner (at an additional cost I must say, this has usually been included in the cost in my previous hair salons). I went along with it, after all she is the expert. She did explain the cut she thought my hair needed and I stressed I would like to keep the length as much as possible, so out came the scissors. Happy with her suggestion, I knew my hair needed the weight taken out of it (I have loads of hair and it is extremely thick too) so was happy with this. As she started drying my hair I noticed that I couldn't see many of the highlights she had put through my hair. Didn't say anything as I thought it was down to the lighting in the salon. Love the new cut, almost exactly as I had imagined it to be only a tiny bit shorter that I hoped. When I met my husband later in the day he wondered what had happened to my original plan for having my hair highlighted. I am presuming the toner used was actually a lot darker than I wanted and to have paid what I did for the service I, as you can imagine, not a very happy customer. Throughout the service my stylist and her partner/manager spoke at length in their own language and making jokes (laughter gives that away) whether it be a personal conversation or work related conversation they were having no-one knows. Beware of the hidden extra costs that get added on by the staff at varying prices. All in all I was disappointed with the service I received.

2nd time here and am very happy with the service I received today from LISA who is clearly an experienced, amiable hairdresser. She was very informative and explained techniques relating to colour, cut and condition, when asked and without prompting. Will be very happy to receive treatment in the future from her.

  • Avoid at all costs (Rating 1/5)
Appointment was for 10am and i was still waiting for them to start my hair at 10:45. I eventually gave up and left the salon at 11am as i was working that afternoon and wasn't prepared to wait any longer.

  • New city,new hair (Rating 4.2/5)
Not easy finding salons offering low prices for my usual treatment, and being new to the city I had to take a chance and just pick somewhere unbeknown to myself or my few friends. The stylist was very informative and helpful without being intimidating and explained what she could/would do and I'm pleased with the result.
