This is a good value deal!

The £17.25 deal for 2 courses off the normal menu is really good value. The food is lovely and the portions are generous.

Atmospheric Scottish restaurant in the Merchant City

Babbity Bowster is one of those iconic Glasgow drinking and dining spots that charms anyone lucky enough to stumble upon it.

Tucked away on Blackfriars Street, it is both a small guest house and French-influenced restaurant that showcases seasonal Scottish ingredients.

Inside, you will find a cosy fireplace, restful decor and an overall welcoming feel. Babbity Bowster is actually named after an old Scottish country dance, so it’s fitting that occasional live music events add to the vibe.

Scottish classics and global favourites

Imagine true Scottish soul food with added European panache and you’ve got a good idea of what to expect at Babbity.

Starters including traditional cullen skink fish soup; smoked mackerel pate, and haggis bon bons with Arran mustard & whisky cream. For zesty decadence, opt for the smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche & capers.

Mains include meat or veggie haggis, neeps & tatties; “Glasgow’s Best” steak pie with mash and gravy, or a crowd-pleasing macaroni cheese. Seafood fan? Then you can opt for fish & chips or a more sophisticated crab & prawn linguine.

Or you could take your tastebuds on a global tour by opting for the Thai Vegetable curry; meat or veggie chilli, or Toulouse Sausage on a bed of cassoulet and mash. Or what about the staff favourite of Cajun chicken with honey ginger cream?

A true Merchant City gem

Babbity is in the heart of Glasgow’s buzzy restaurant and bar hub, just a 10-minute walk from Queen Street station and 15 minutes from Central station.

It is a great spot for a cosy meal before heading to the Old Fruitmarket or Tron Theatre.
