    We were group of 8 and had great positioned table, it almost felt like private dining. All of the food was superb. It was difficult to choose as all the choices sounded good. Very relaxed couple of hours all of us intend to go back.

    Why have I never been here before?

    This is an excellent restaurant for meat eaters and vegans. The selection of choices on the menu for each course were perfect and the food itself was well presented and very tasty. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. I won't hesitate to visit again now that I know what a gem this place is.

Casual dining in Glasgow city centre

Conveniently located in Glasgow’s city centre, Red Onion provides all day casual dining courtesy of the chef owner John Quigley. Before opening Red Onion, he worked as a private chef to rock and pop stars such as Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and Guns n’ Roses. His travels with various stars took him all over the world and he has brought back to Glasgow many of the dishes which he encountered during his globe-trotting days.

Despite John’s rock n’ roll credentials, the background music at Red Onion remains firmly in the background although it’s not unheard of for the odd star to pop in for a bite to eat.

Scottish produce in extensive menu

Glasgow’s Red Onion highlights the best Scottish produce in a menu that stretches from classic Scots dishes to rather more exotic choices. It’s an extensive menu that ranges from char grilled Caledonian crown steaks to a five spice roast Gressingham duck breast with sweet potato fondant, pak choi and shitake mushroom jus.

Dainty tempura prawns nestle alongside hearty steaks and both fish lovers and vegetarians are well served. Among the fish dishes are the home-grown grilled Finnan haddie with mash, poached egg and Mornay sauce as well more far flung choices like the roast monkfish fillet with prawn and pea korma, roti paratha, crispy onions and coconut rice.

Red Onion gets it right. It feels like a neighbourhood bistro but serves a well travelled menu in Glasgow’s city centre.

10 minute walk to Glasgow train stations

Red Onion is around a ten minute walk from both Glasgow Queen Street and Central stations. It’s a great location for picking up a taxi either from Sauchiehall street or one of the surrounding streets plus there are numerous bus route nearby.
